Innovation and Renovation on the Trolley Trail

Attention Trolley Trail walkers, runners, bicyclists, and enthusiasts: the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension is one step closer to reaching UMKC!

To make room for the new streetcar tracks, a section of the Trolley Trail between 49th and 51st Streets will be relocated approximately 20-feet to the east of the existing trail. A new 10-foot-wide concrete trail, and a retaining wall for the future UMKC station stop and plaza, will be constructed. While the Trolley Trail will remain open during construction, trail-users will be detoured to the barrier-protected northbound lane of Brookside Boulevard.

This early work is anticipated to be complete by May 2022 and brings the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension one step closer to welcoming passengers in 2025!

Detour signs are located at both impacted ends of the Trolley Trail for users to learn more about the project.
