Connecting the Old to the New

KC Streetcar Constructors successfully completed six days of 24/7 work to tie-in new streetcar tracks to the existing tracks at the Kite E. Singleton Maintenance Yard, also known as the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF). Crews excavated the guideway, graded the ground, built new tracks, installed Overhead Catenary System foundations and poles, and tied it all together. This is the first time the existing streetcar track and system was connected to the new tracks and system as part of the Main Street Extension project.

This work was closely coordinated with the KC Streetcar Authority as streetcars were unable to come back to the facility during this work. This careful coordination allowed KC Streetcar service to be maintained throughout the work without interruption.
