KC Streetcar Constructors are moving right along!

There’s a lot more to the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension than simply constructing a track. One of the many items the design and construction team had to consider was ensuring stormwater does not affect streetcar operations.

In order to mitigate stormwater concerns, Kissick Construction is installing an 11-foot wide, 6-foot tall, and 300-foot long storm sewer box, also known as a reinforced concrete box (RCB). This storm sewer box is being installed in the middle of Main Street, from 37th Street to 36th Street. Starting Thursday, April 21, work will begin at 37th Street and move north toward 36th Street.

This work is anticipated to take four months to complete, weather permitting. Northbound and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and pushed to the far east and west sides of the street. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be unable to turn left into businesses during this work.

Northbound traffic accessing businesses on the west side of Main Street will need to follow the marked detour:

  • Turn right on 37th Street,

  • Left onto Walnut Street,

  • Left onto Armour Boulevard and

  • Left onto Main Street

Southbound traffic accessing businesses on the east side of Main Street will need to follow the marked detour:

  • Turn right onto 36th Street,

  • Left onto Wyandotte Street,

  • Left onto 38th Street, and

  • Left onto Main Street

No water service disruptions are anticipated during this work. If you have questions or concerns about the RCB installation or any other work happening on Main Street, please call the hotline number at 816-337-1013 or email us at info@buildkcstreetcar.com
