Additional Traffic Changes Ahead!

Beginning Monday, March 20, traffic patterns will change on Brookside Boulevard near the Plaza

On Monday, March 20, KC Streetcar Constructors will begin bridge work on Brookside Boulevard between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard. This work is anticipated to take several months to complete. It will be conducted in phases and will necessitate traffic pattern changes for the traveling public.


Phase 1: Monday, March 20

  • Crews will be working to demolish the median on the Brookside Boulevard Bridge. Storm sewer work will take place on the north side of eastbound Ward Parkway.

  • The inside lanes of Brookside Boulevard will be closed from Martin Luther King Boulevard and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.

  • All vehicular traffic will be shifted to the west and east sides of Brookside Boulevard from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard during this work.

  • No turns will be allowed on westbound Ward Parkway during this work.

  • No left turns will be allowed onto north Brookside Boulevard from eastbound Ward Parkway. The traveling public can detour via Oak Street and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.

  • Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard will experience lane drops during this work.

  • This work is anticipated to be complete by the end of next week.


Phase 2: Friday, March 24

  • The west side of Brookside Boulevard will be closed from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.

  • Northbound and southbound traffic will have lane reductions on Brookside Boulevard during this work.

  • The sidewalk on the west side of Brookside Boulevard is closed from westbound Ward Parkway to eastbound Ward Parkway. Pedestrians should cross to the east side of Brookside Boulevard at 49th Street or at westbound Ward Parkway.

  • This work is anticipated to take until the end of September, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.


The schedule outlined above is tentative and subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances. After crews complete this work, they will flip to work on the east side of the bridge. Additional updates will be provided as the work progresses.
